Senator Gregory Encourages Residents to Vote for Local Students in $10K Scholarship Contest

Senator Vincent Gregory (DβSouthfield) on Monday congratulated local high school seniors Natalie B. from Ferndale and Samantha F. from Southfield for their , and encouraged local residents to vote for these studentsβ video entries to help them win $10,000 towards college. The competition received an overwhelming response from high school seniors across Michigan and the 55 semi-finalists are now available online at www.mi2020video.com.
βI applaud these students for their creative and thoughtful video entries into the #mi2020 Scholarship Competition that share their thoughts on the importance of affordable higher education in Michigan,β said Senator Gregory. βIβm excited to have some local students from my district represented in this competition and I appreciate their hard work and passion. I urge local residents to text, call or vote online and support Natalie and Samantha as they compete to win $10,000 towards their college tuition next year.β
The first round of voting will take place through Sunday, May 6, 2012, and the 10 finalists will be announced on or around May 11. The public is encouraged to vote either online or via phone or text message. Information on how to vote is available on the website. Participants were asked to submit a short web video that explains the importance of investing in higher education and how the Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all students is the right investment for our state to make. The winner of the competition will receive up to $10,000 for their first yearβs expenses at a public Michigan university or community college. More information on the Michigan 2020 Plan to provide college tuition for all Michigan high school graduates is available online at www.michigan2020.com.
