Axle Brewing Taps 'Very Stable Genius'

Beer Named For Presidential Tweet Will Support Ferndale Community Radio

Axle Brewing will tap Very Stable Genius tomorrow. The Ferndale brewery describes their new imperial wheat beer as β€œpowerful, yet delicate and even fragile, consistent with its inspiration,” in this case, the 45th president of the United States. Earlier this month, after the president Tweeted to call himself a β€œvery stable genius,” the brewery decided to honor him.

Livernois Tap, Axle Bewing’s Ferndale taproom, will begin selling Very Stable Genius, an 8.5% ABV imperial wheat beer, starting Thursday, Jan. 26. Axle founder Dan Riley says proceeds from the new beer will help the company invest in local media. A percentage of Very Stable Genius’ proceeds will benefit Ferndale Radio (100.7 FM), helping to pay for the design of the station’s new studio space inside Rust Belt Market.

"We are thrilled about this partnership. With the collaborative genius of Axle Brewing, Patrick Thompson Design, Long White Beard and Live Edge Detroit behind us, we'll have a studio space to match the character and creativity of the rest of the Rust Belt Market. We can't thank them enough,” said Michelle Mirowski, president of Ferndale Radio. The station began broadcasting from Rust Belt in November 2017.

Other partners in the new space include Patrick Thompson Design, which will oversee plans for the station, Long White Beard (construction help) and Live Edge Detroit, which will donate reclaimed wood.

β€œWe’re very proud to add some substance to the satire by dedicating a portion of sales from β€˜Very Stable Genius’ to a worthy non-profit that creates authentic content and shares our passion for music and culture,” Riley said. β€œWe love being able to engage our friends and neighbors who share our values and can make it happen.” he added.

Rust Belt Market’s Revel Bar will also tap VSG (starting Friday, Jan. 26). All proceeds from VSG sold there will go to Ferndale Radio’s new space. Riley says $1 from every pint of VSG sold at Livernois Tap will go to the station, too. Design work and planning have begun already, with construction on Ferndale Radio set to begin in February.
