Comoβs Woes Included Nearly $1 Million In Tax Liens
Restaurant Owed Thousands In State, Federal Taxes

Como's pizzeria in downtown Ferndale amassed nearly $1 million in state and federal tax liens since 2000, according to Crainβs Detroit Business, which reviewed the liens. After a series of health department violations, the 66-year-old Ferndale restaurant closed for good last month.
Michigan Restaurant Liquidations & Auctions will begin auctioning off the defunct restaurantβs equipment tomorrow, including pizza ovens and Comoβs famous red star sign. A second auction of Comoβs items will take place Jan 11.
According to Crainβs, Como's received $275,429 in federal and state liens. These were in response to unpaid taxes from just last year. The business received one $53,840 lien on Oct. 20 alone. The liens demand payment of withholding and unemployment taxes, federal corporate and unemployment taxes, and sales tax. The paperwork Crains reviewed included liens ranging in value from $38.91 to $171,331.
