Man With 53 License Suspensions Led Ferndale Police On A Chase To Detroit
The events all started at a Ferndale CVS.

FERNDALE, MI — 57-year-old Jonas Smith, of Hazel Park, was arraigned today in Ferndale 43rd District Court on charges of fleeing and eluding police, driving on a suspended license and retail fraud.
Today's arraignment stems from events that unfolded at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 30. According to The Oakland Press, CVS employees at 900 W. Nine Mile Road called police after allegedly seeing the suspect steal toiletries and drive off in a silver car. A Ferndale police officer spotted Smith and attempted to pull him over. However, Smith refused and a chase broke out from Ferndale to Detroit before Smith ultimately smashed into a light pole. Officers noted the smell of alcohol and arrested Smith.
This was Smith's third drunk driving charge and throughout the years he's racked up 53 suspensions on his driver’s license. Sgt. Baron Brown of the Ferndale police explained "You can keep accumulating suspensions if you never go to court."
