Robber Strikes Ferndale's Payless Shoe Store

The suspect in the Payless robbery remains at large.

FERNDALE, MI β€” A Payless Shoe Store was the scene of a robbery, according to a police report.

The incident happened on Jan. 16 at 8:20 p.m. at the Payless location at 9 Mile and Pinecrest. A female employee told Ferndale police a white man wearing a tan jacket, black gloves and a hat covering his face walked into the store and right up to her demanding, "Give me all of the money out of your register." The suspect then grabbed the employee by the right wrist and pulled her to the front register before stating "Open the register."

The suspect allegedly had his left hand in his coat pocket the entire time, which made the employee believe he was armed. Once the suspect collected the cash from the register, he fled on foot. Officers responded to the scene but were unable to find the suspect.
