Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe Names New Chief Medical Officer
Infectious Disease Doctor Tapped For Leadership Role

Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe announced today that Dr. Nicholas Gilpin, an infectious disease specialist, has been named chief medical officer. Gilpin has worked as the medical director of Infection Control and section head of Infectious Disease at Beaumont Grosse Pointe since 2011. Working with hospital president Rick Swaine, Gilpin will “oversee hospital performance and develop the vision and strategic plan for clinical activities,” according to a release.
“During his time with Beaumont, Dr. Gilpin has earned the respect of his peers as an excellent clinician and leader,” said David Wood, M.D., chief medical officer, Beaumont Health. “His high energy and commitment to keeping the hospital and medical staff functioning at an exemplary level will serve him well in this position.”
Gilpin, a graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, also serves as an assistant professor at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and Michigan State. In 2013, the Beaumont Grosse Pointe Family Residency program named Gilpin Teacher of the Year.

Dr. Gilpin, who lives in Royal Oak with his wife, Lauren, and their two cats, takes over for Dr. Donna Hoban, who served as chief medical officer at Beaumont Grosse Pointe since 2008. Dr. Hoban will continue in her private medical practive and plans to remain involved with operations at Beaumont as a patient safety officer, the hospital said.
