Board of Review Dates Set for Assessment Appeals

Call to make an appointment with the appropriate board to appeal your home's taxable value or to petition for hardship.

Most residents have already received their property assessments and if they haven't, they will soon. Each of the Pointes is preparing to hold their Board of Review hearings throughout March.

The Board of Review is a group of citizens from each Pointe with expertise in property values, the housing market and more. They are selected to hear appeals by residents who feel their homes have been overvalued. The board hears the appeals from the residents in a 10-minute hearing. They gather following the hearings to evaluate all the relevant information and make a decision.

This is also the proper avenue to apply for an exemption, which allows residents to skip paying taxes due to a documented hardship.

After all of the hearings are complete and the board has ruled on each appeal or hardship application, the cities will then have a more accurate reflection of their 2011-2012 budgets. The board's rulings determine exactly how much the city will ultimately receive from property owners for taxes, which is the main form of revenue.
