Council Approves Purchase of Police Car, OKs Hospital Sign
The City police will receive a new patrol car within the next month to replace one totaled by a drunken driver. And a new, lit entryway sign is approved for Beaumont hospital.

The City of Grosse Pointe council voted unanimously Monday to allow Public Safety Director James Fox to purchase a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria to replace a patrol car totaled last month.Â
A 2008 Ford Crown Victoria used for patrol was rear-ended by a drunken driver Jan. 29 and the damages were significant enough to total it. Both cars were towed from the scene due to the amount of damage sustained.Â
The new vehicle will cost $21,632 and it replaces a 2008 version that had 78,000 miles on it. The City will try to obtain restitution from the drunken driver.Â

After discussing, redesigning and discussing it more, Beaumont Grosse Pointe was given the go-ahead Monday to install a new entryway sign for the hospital. The sign will have automatic lighting and meets the needs of the City and the wants of the hospital.Â

Mayor Dale Scrace told council members about the sheer number of designs that went into the sign and said the end result is something workable. "We don't want it to be a beacon from 18 blocks away," he said, noting it must still alert people that there is a hospital there.Â
The council also approved site plans for Green Zone Pizza, a new restaurant slated to open in the late spring. It will seat about 30 people and serve food made with all-organic ingredients. The owner wants to keep everything local as well.Â
