Grosse Pointe Farms Tells Gas Station To Tone Down Sign

Shell Station Sign Too Bright, Warns City

Grosse Pointe Farms officials asked the owners of the Shell Station at Mack and Moross to turn down the illumination of its logo sign. The city also complained that the new station - once a BP - was selling shot-size “airline” bottles of spirits and had broken a promise to sell craft beers and wines (and only til midnight).

Farms Mayor Louis Theros gave the station’s owner, Sam Barbat, a talking-to about the sign and other issues. “I think this is the eighth misunderstanding we’ve had with you,” Theros said, citing issues with the sale of the shot bottles. “I would ask you to never have a misunderstanding with us again,” Theros admonished.
