Grosse Pointe Firefighters Train on Irvine Lane

Public Safety officers from the Grosse Pointes recently participated in a joint firefighter training exercise on Irvine Lane as part of a larger plan to train together and make purchases as one group rather than five.

Public safety officers from the five Grosse Pointes participated in a joint training exercise on Irvine Lane as part of a bigger plan by the Grosse Pointe Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee to streamline firefighting services. 

The training was set up in five stations, including:

  • roof ventilation
  • wall breaching
  • RIT pack
  • search and rescue
  • basement escape

The group training is the result of an agreement approved by the five Grosse Pointe city councils as recommended by the Grosse Pointe Public Safety Ad Hoc Committee. The streamlining efforts outlined in the agrement are:

  • having officers from the five Pointes participate in joint training sessions
  • having the five public safety departments purchase fire equipment as one unit rather than five, to save money and to ensure all equipment is interchangeable and compatible with the other departments for smoother operations at the scenes of fires where they may all be working together to battle a blaze
  • to establish automatic aid operations for particularly high-risk or high-occupancy structures
