Grosse Pointers Speak Out About Occupy Detroit

Occupy Detroit will take place Friday at 4 p.m. with people expected to gather at the Spirit of Detroit downtown.
The movement’s message is “to take back the country,” according to its Facebook page, but not everyone agrees with the protest.
“The Media gives this positive press and the Tea Party negative coverage,” Bill Meredith Sr. said on the Grosse Pointe Patch Facebook page. “Wrong!”

Others expressed similar sentiments, calling the protests “dumb,” “idiotic,” and “absurd.”
“Could they please occupy some of the abandoned homes (across) Mack?” Rouzbeh Oskui posted. “While they are there, maybe they could mow the grass and pull some weeds … that way they could actually make a difference.”

But some people agreed with the Occupy Detroit movement.
“I'm not involved in the protests, but many folks I know who are have been right beside me for many years pulling weeds, mowing grass, picking up garbage, running community events,” Ellen Phillips said.
