Guinness Cupcakes Featured at Chocolate Bar Cafe

Owner Lisa Corbin is trying something new this year in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day: Guinness cupcakes.

With her mini-fridge packed with Guinness and cake batter galore, Lisa Corbin whipped up a new St. Patrick's Day treat: Guinness cupcakes with Irish cream-flavored butter cream frosting.

Corbin, owner of the in Grosse Pointe Woods, is featuring the cupcakes all week as the cupcake of the day. Featured cupcakes are a special price at $2.

The idea surfaced while Corbin was reading about such baking trials and she's already been selling some. They're topped off with a plastic beer mug, also filled with frosting to look like beer foam.

The amount of beer required is small, she said, noting one can works for two batches of cupcakes. The beer is cooked out except for the taste, making it a safe option for any age, she said.

"People tell me it's really good," she said, noting the positive response. "It tastes like malt."

This novelty cupcake was "a last-minute thing," Corbin said.

Although the store is clearly gearing up for Easter—their biggest holiday of the year—it is decked out in the shamrock glitz. Corbin is hoping the cupcakes as well as the wide variety of St. Patrick's Day candies they are offering will be a draw for people.

"It's fun," she said of the cupcake. "St. Patrick's Day is about drinking traditionally, so I thought why not."

The ice cream, chocolate and coffee shop offers a variety of cupcakes daily throughout the year.
