Liggett Performers Give Sneak Peak of Spring Musical
A few hundred people gathered at Kercheval Avenue and Notre Dame Street Saturday afternoon as University Liggett students performed one of the songs from their spring musical, 'Hairspray.'
In an effort to give their spring musical, Hairspray, some publicity, 35 or so upper school students gave Pointers a sneak preview performance of one of the songs to be performed beginning March 3.
The many other students, including middle schoolers who have built the set, came to support the performers. The corner sidewalks at Kercheval Avenue and Notre Dame Street were packed with onlookers. Small groups of the performers danced and sang at each of the four corners at 2 p.m.
A minivan borrowing the sidewalk next to blared music out its open hatchback and many parents were videotaping and photographing the quick performance.

spokesman Ron Bernas said the entire cast and crew came out for the event. What makes Liggett's musical unique it that it's is entirely created by the students. They make the costumes, the sets and run the box office as well as do all of the publicity, he said.
The student performers had a special one hour practice early Saturday in preparation for the afternoon gathering, he said.
