MEAP Scores Show Steady Performance in GP Schools

An initial review of the MEAP standardized test scores for grades 3 to 9 show little change from last year.

Grosse Pointe students tracked about the same in 2010 as the previous year on the Michigan Department of Education's MEAP test.

The standardized test is given as a measure of the level of student learning, and the state released the fall 2010 test results Thursday.

An initial review of the 2010 MEAP figures for , shows students in grades 3-9 performed relatively the same as in 2009. The scores are broken down in a variety of ways, including by individual schools as well as an overall figure to show the percent of students who are considered proficient.

The overall figures for most tests are in the high 90s for most test subjects, which are math, reading and for some grades writing, social studies and science. 

Many of the math scores increased slightly from 2009 for the district as a whole while much of the reading scores dipped ever so slightly. Grades 4 and 7 were tested in writing. The scores were 69.9 and 70.8 percents respectively.

The table below shows the percentage of students in each grade that met or exceeded the test in the list subject. Areas without scores mean that grade was not tested in that subject.
