New Development Stirs Lawsuit In Grosse Pointe Shores
Eighteen Homes Planned For Grosse Pointe Shores Site

The Detroit Free Press describes Grosse Pointe Shores as “home to 1,300 mansions and large homes but not a single gas station, party store or bar” in an article describing developers’ hotly contested plans for 8 acres in the Deeplands neighborhood. A builder wants to tear one large home down on the parcel and build a collection of smaller houses for sale. While this builder only wants to build 18 “luxury” houses, not 30 condos (as was previously attempted and rejected for the site), details remain to be ironed out.
The city of Grosse Pointe Shores says the planned development violates a municipal cul-de-sac ordinance, and a group of wealthy homeowners uninterested in living next to brand new McMansions, are suing to try to limit the number of homes on the site to six.
