Park Scone Shop Altered Name Not Product

Customers can find the same great service and delicious scones at Fou d'amour Pastries and Catering as they did before the name change.

Pointers who have come to love the scones from a quaint little shop in Grosse Pointe Park shouldn't be scared off by the name change. It's only that, a name change.

Fou d'amour Pastries and Catering, 15110 Kercheval Ave., was formerly known as Just Delicious. The space seats about 10 people and serves coffee, tea and scones. Lots of scones. Light lunch options are also available and Wednesday night dinners for which they've become known.

The scones are made fresh daily on site and co-owner Darcy Towns doesn't want customers to worry. She changed the awning sign late last year but she is still fielding a lot of questions, she said. It is however the same store, with the same employees, the same recipes, the same quality and the same service.

Towns and co-owner Michele Makowski's focus is the 800-square-feet in the Park. Towns enjoys being able to sell her product, knowing its fresh and having neighborhood residents walk in to find what they've come to know, expect and love.

"I'm so thankful they are here," Towns said of the employees. "We're a team. We had a staff that helped us succeed. They are a godsend."

Fou d'amour, French for madly in love, was perfect, Towns said. The name change, she said, was probably overdue. Formerly known as Just Delicious, Towns explained that she and her former business partner went separate ways.

The pair were childhood friends who began catering together after high school. Their business grew and grew. And grew. Suddenly, Towns said, "we realized this was not just something two moms doing a side thing."

Their growth catapulted when they opened the Kercheval Avenue store front in 2007, attracting attention from large corporate vendors, which ultimately led to the split, Towns said.

"It was getting to be too big to be special anymore," Towns said. "We're going back to the basics."

The store, which was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce a few years ago, offers a Wednesday night dinner special from 5 to 7 p.m. for $10. Earlier this month, the featured meal was seafood crepes. The meals are homemade and new options are offered each week.

Fou d'amour recently sold a comfort casserole of macaroni and cheese as a take home and warm up option for dinner. This summer, Towns said, the staff is planning to offer boxed lunches for people wishing to picnic outside. It'll be a nice addition for the clients and the store, she said.

The most important thing about the name change is that the product hasn't changed, Towns said. Catering is still baked fresh the day of the party, she said.

"I like doing Wednesday night dinners," Towns said. "I don't want to have a manufacturing plant."
