Pointes Towing Magnate Sparks Internal Affairs Investigation

Fiore At Center Of State Police Internal Affairs Investigation.

Gaspar Fiore, the Grosse Pointe Shores towing company head at the center of a sprawling area-wide corruption case, has prompted an internal investigation within the Michigan State Police, a public affairs officer said Tuesday.

The investigation inside the MSP relates to a bribery scheme tying Fiore to officials in Macomb and Detroit, among other places, according to the Detroit Free Press. On Jan. 2, Celia Washington, formerly a deputy chief with the Detroit Police, pleaded guilty to bribery. In pleading guilty, Washington admitted taking an envelope full of cash from Fiore, who the FBI alleges used bribes to secure towing contracts.

Fiore, 57, faces sentencing in May, after recently pleading guilty to bribing a Macomb County official. Fiore could spend up to five years in federal prison.
