Police Blotter: Drunken Drivers, Harassment

A 32-year-old Roseville woman was arrested with a 1-month-old baby lying on the front seat of her car.

Grosse Pointe Shores police arrested a 32-year-old Roseville woman for drunken driving, child endangerment and possession of marijuana.

An officer stopped the woman after seeing her drive erratically on Lakeshore Road about 11:45 p.m. Feb. 6 swerving between lanes. The officer said when he approached the woman's car, her speech was slurred and she smelled of alcohol. Police said when she got out of the car, she swayed while standing.

Inside the car with her was her 1-month-old nephew lying on the front seat strapped in with an adult lap belt and her 5-year-old son belted into a rear seat without a car seat. She was babysitting her nephew. She had a 0.16-percent blood alcohol content and had nearly five grams of marijuana on her, according to police reports. The baby was released to his mother and the woman's son was released to his father. She appeared before a judge for arraignment this week.

In a second case, Shores officers arrested a 22-year-old St. Clair Shores man for drunken driving Feb. 7 near Lakeshore Road and the Milk River. Police said the man rear-ended another vehicle and then drove from the scene. His blood alcohol content was 0.22 percent, according to police reports. 

Woman reports son's harassment

A Willison Road resident reported to Shores police that her son is harassing her following her husband's death. The woman called police Feb. 6 to report that her son won't leave her alone about his inheritance from his father but that it's too soon following her husband's death for any such paperwork to be complete. The woman told officers she is now going through treatment for cancer and cannot handle the harassment, according to police reports. 

Farms Arrest Two Drunken Drivers

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested two men for drunken driving Feb. 4 and 7.

In the first case, a motorist reported to police that the person driving a vehicle that was following another vehicle down Lakeshore Road appeared to be drunk while driving. An officer stopped the 32-year-old Clinton Township driver about 11:30 p.m. and did not administer field sobriety tests because the man reported having a prosthetic leg and eye. Police said the man smelled of alcohol and had a 0.13 percent blood alcohol content.

In the second case, a 43-year-old Detroit man made an illegal U-turn on Mack Avenue near Gateshead. Police said when the officer approached the car, the man smelled of alcohol and had poor coordination. He nearly fell over several times after the officer had him get out of the car. The man referenced the Super Bowl and officers found a nearly empty bottle of tequila behind the driver's seat. The man had a 0.23 percent blood alcohol content, according to police reports. 

Student has cell stolen

The parent of a Grosse Pointe South student reported a cell stolen from the student's purse between Feb. 3 and 4. The student had the phone in her purse while at school and then it was gone. The parent left the phone on initially, thinking it would turn up. But when they checked with the cell phone carrier, they found that calls were being made on the phone and the student began receiving odd messages on the replacement phone, according to police reports.
