Jewelry Reported Stolen

A 79-year-old woman reported six pieces of jewelry stolen from a dresser kept in her spare bedroom. The woman reported the thefts April 19 but she believes they happened in December 2011 and April 13. She said there were some contractors in her home during the times when the jewelry went missing and she simply wanted the theft documented for insurance purposes. The items included two rings, a bracelet, a cross charm and two necklaces, one of which had a maple leaf coin on it. The jewelry is valued at about $8,000; however, that amount does not include one piece that is an antique for which the owner was unsure of its value, according to a report.

Attempted Theft of Vehicle

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating what was likely an attempted theft of a vehicle from the lot of . The vehicle owner told police he was visiting his mother at the hospital April 16 and when he returned to his car shortly after 9 p.m., he discovered damage to the driver's side door and the ignition, according to a report. Earlier that day, another person parked in the lot of St. John's Hospital spotted a man in his car upon approaching it about 5:30 p.m. The man jumped out of the driver's seat of his car, jumped into a gold Chrsyler minivan, and he and at least one other man drove away quickly, exiting the hospital onto Moross Road. The man's vehicle was damaged on the driver's side door and pry marks were found near the ignition. Another witness took down two license plate numbers from the fleeing minivan and gave that information to police, according to a report.

Resident Reports Broken Window

A 40-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods resident reported finding the back window of his car broken out early April 13. Nothing was taken from the car and he believes neighbor kids may be responsible as they are frequently playing ball and hitting his garage, according to a report.

Car Stolen in Georgia Recovered

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a man and a woman April 12 for receiving stolen property after discovering the Chevrolet Impala they were driving was reported stolen in Atlanta. The pair was stopped near Vernier and Helen roads about 8:30 a.m. Both were arrested at the scene and charged with possession of stolen property. The Impala was taken to a tow yard for evidence. The 25-year-old man was from Georgia. The woman's age and residence was not available.

Cell Phone/Stun Gun Turned Over to Police

A Grosse Pointe Woods man turned over a cell phone stun gun he bought on the street in Detroit after believing it was not legal to possess. The man brought it to Grosse Pointe Woods police April 11 and explained he purchased it from a man the day before for $15 but later began questioning if it was legal. Officers took the stun gun to be destroyed and explained it was not legal to possess, according to a report.

Would-Be Burglars Caught In Act

Grosse Pointe Woods police assisted Harper Woods police April 11 after four men dressed in black were found on top of a doctor's office at 12:40 a.m. The Grosse Pointe Woods officers helped set up a perimeter and then helped secure the men for transport to the Harper Woods jail, according to a report.

Laptop, Costume Jewelry Stolen

Grosse Pointe Woods police are investigating the theft of costume jewelry and a laptop from a home in the 1500 block of Anita. The homeowner discovered the items missing April 6 and identified several possible suspects, all of whom either know her, her adult son or her grandson. Detectives have completed several interviews with those she identified and discovered one of them was arrested in St. Clair Shores for numerous home invasions involving jewelry. The detectives checked some of the evidence gathered by St. Clair Shores police but it did not match what was stolen from the Anita Road home, according to a report.

Identity Theft Reported by 2 Residents

A 51-year-old City of Grosse Pointe resident reported identity theft April 19 after attempting to file his taxes only to be told his taxes have already been filed.

A 56-year-old resident reported identity theft after trying to file her income taxes and being told they were already filed. The woman's accountant alerted her to the problem and she alerted the three credit bureaus of the problem, according to a report.

Bicycle Stolen Outside Business

police are investigating the theft of an unlocked bicycle parked outside of in the Village on April 13. The bike belonged to a 12-year-old City boy, who told officers he went into CVS for two to five minutes and, when he returned, it was gone, according to a report.

eBay Fraud Reported

A 53-year-old City of Grosse Pointe woman reported a transaction that went bad through eBay. The woman was selling a MacBook Pro for $500. She told officers she accidentally sent it to the buyer before receiving payment and now the buyer said the computer was broken and he already sent it back to her. He will not provide a tracking number for the package however. Police told the woman to file a complaint with eBay using the police report number.

Drunken Driving Arrests

Grosse Pointe Woods police arrested a man for drunken driving April 11 after his erratic driving was called in to a 911 dispatcher by another motorist. A responding officer found the vehicle described and while driving behind him, the vehicle swerved in and out of the lanes, made a turn on red where prohibited and hit a curb twice. The man was stopped near Vernier and Mack but closer to Anita Avenue. He had an initial blood alcohol content of 0.21 and later a more formal test showed he had a 0.20 percent blood alcohol content. The legal limit in Michigan is 0.08. The man's age and residence was not available.

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 37-year-old Clinton Township man April 19 after he was driving erratically and resisted officers. The man refused to stop for a patrol officer and tried to drive away from the stop even after another officer pulled into his path. The man also refused to roll down the window, unlock the car and put his car in park. Officers found a syringe inside the vehicle and a diabetes test kit along with a six-pack of beer. During the stop, the man shoved an officer to the ground. Medics were called to the scene at Moross and Chalfont about 4 p.m., where they checked his blood-sugar level. He was given two glasses of juice to boost his level and officers noted his repeated wavering from angry and uncooperative to calm and cooperative attitude. At one point, the man said he did not recall resisting officers but officers eventually had to use a taser to calm the man down and prevent him from injuring more officers on the scene. He was arrested for resisting arrest and disobeying police officer commands.

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 23-year-old New Baltimore man April 16 for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs. A gas station attendant called police after the man arrived at the gas station, went into the bathroom for 30 minutes and then came out, pulled his car forward one pump and then remained there for another 30 minutes. The responding officer talked to the driver, who had slurred speech. The man said he did not drink any alcohol but did take two prescription pills earlier in the day. Later during his arrest, he admitted to using heroin and Xanax in the gas station bathroom. The man completed several field sobriety tests, which he failed, but he had a 0.00 blood alcohol content when tested. The arresting officer obtained a blood sample and arrested the man, according to a report.

Tequila Stolen

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of a $60 bottle of tequila from . Officers were called to the market April 19 by employees who spotted the man who previously tried to steal liquor from the store. After the man left, the employee noticed a bottle that had been in a gift box was missing. He went outside and found the man with another man. They drove away with the bottle, according to a report.

Resident Arrested on Felony Warrant

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 44-year-old resident in his driveway April 18 on a felony warrant out of Macomb County for dangerous drugs. A patrol officer spotted the man getting into his car and confronted him. The man admitted to being the person with the warrant and cooperated with the officer during the arrest, according to a report.

Man Arrested for Trespassing in Business

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 46-year-old Detroit man April 15 on possession of paraphernalia charge after a Mack Avenue business owner called police about the man. The man had been told a few days earlier to stay out of the party store after the owner discovered he had been panhandling inside it. The man returned April 15 and during a search of his person during the arrest, officers found two crack pipes, one glass pipe, one metal pipe and a small marijuana joint, according to a report.

Teen Investigations

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested an 18-year-old City of Grosse Pointe resident April 13 after discovering he had marijuana in a box in his backpack. The officer stopped the man near Webster and Kerby roads about 2:30 a.m. after spotting him on a bicycle in the dark. He smelled of alcohol, to which he admitted drinking a few beers hours earlier. The officer requested to search his backpack, which is when the marijuana was found. A portable breath test revealed the teen had a 0.07 blood alcohol content. He was charged with possession of marijuana and underage consumption of alcohol.

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating a traffic stop in which four young men were stopped after the driver threw a cigarette butt out of window near Mack and Opal about 4:30 a.m. April 12. The driver said he had not been drinking but that his friends asked him for a ride. He was given a portable breath test, which showed he had not been drinking. Two of the other young men were released to their parents but the officers referred the case to detectives, requesting minor in possession tickets for them and a violation of the controlled substances act for one after discovering they had consumed alcohol and one had marijuana on him. The three Grosse Pointe Park men, ages 18, 20 and 21, and the City of Grosse Pointe man, age 19, have been involved in other investigations.
