Shores Council Seeks Gatehouse For Osius Park
Grosse Pointe Shores City Council is considering a new gate house for Osius Park partly as a way of managing nonresident parking.

At a city council meeting Feb. 20, Grosse Pointe Shores officials discussed a new gatehouse for Osius Park, along with other projects for the city-owned complex. Council members cited a need for more security at the park, though Director of Public Safety John Schulte's report says there isn’t enough criminal activity at the park to warrant a bigger gatehouse.
“Statistics show that if the sole intention is to build the new guard house to address a specific crime issue, it would not be warranted,” Schulte wrote. Schulte did say that the gatehouse would help restrict parking to Grosse Pointe Shores residents only. According to the Grosse Pointe Times, residents resent it when “nonresidents” use parking spaces and then catch buses downtown.
Schulte says staffing the gatehouse would cost the city $30,000 a year. No decision has been made about the gatehouse. Grosse Pointe Shores City Council’s next meeting is March 20.
