Whiz Kid: Math, Spelling, Science and Sports, Too
St. Paul's eighth-grader GR Dulac excels in academics while participating in a variety of extracurricular activities.

- Key to Success: "GR has been in the Knights of Columbus State spelling bee for the past three years, and all three times has been runner-up. The state spelling bee is held in Standish, MI. There were about 18 participants from all over the state this year in the seventh-ninth grade division. This competition lasted almost two-and-a-half hours. GR recently received an academic scholarship to U of D high school for next year and was an eighth-grade winner of the annual math competition. He also participates in multiple extra activities including Science Olympiad, CYO soccer, tennis, cross-country and track, skiing, swim team and tennis," said Patti Theros, St. Paul's spokeswoman. GR was nominated by St. Paul Junior High teacher Beth Shaum, who is also the spelling bee coordinator for the school.
Every Wednesday a child in the Grosse Pointes will be recognized for his or her achievements and identified as the Grosse Pointe Patch Whiz Kid.
