Bomb Threat Evacuates Nearby School

Phoned-in threat forces the evacuation of New Haven High School

A bomb scare phoned into the school’s office forced the evacuation of New Haven High School Thursday morning.

“A secretary at the school received a call at about 7:25 a.m. stating there was a bomb in the school and that 20 people would die,” Capt. Brenda Baker of the Macomb County Sheriffs Department told the Detroit News. “We responded, and the school was evacuated. We had a K-9 unit do a search, and the only thing we found that seemed suspicious was a backpack left by a drinking fountain.”

The backpack contained only school supplies and other items for school.

According to Baker, the caller seemed to be younger but tried to disguise their voice to sound older.

Students were back in class by 9 a.m.
