Crime Report: Apartment Burglarized; Women Arrested on Shoplifting Charges

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

An second-floor apartment on Shorecrest Drive was burglarized between 4-7:30 a.m. Friday, according to a report. The male who lives there said he came home from work at 4 a.m. and everything was in order, the report said. One of the residents woke up at 7:30 a.m. and noticed that the sliding-glass door was open and items were missing, the report said. According to the police report, a laptop, iPod Nano and two women's purses were stolen. The police report said the suspect must have used a plastic table to aid in climbing onto the second-floor patio. The sliding-glass door was closed but left unlocked because the lock is broken.

Women arrested on shoplifting charges

  • A 33-year-old female from West Bloomfield was arrested Thursday on charges of retail fraud of the second degree, according to a police report. The woman was shopping in at Twelve Oaks Mall when the loss prevention manager saw her grab $300 worth of children’s clothes and conceal them while in the fitting room, the report said. The woman left the store to go into the mall without paying, the report said.
  • A 21-year-old female from Sterling Heights was arrested Friday on charges of retail fraud of the second degree, according to a police report. The woman was shopping in at 7 p.m. when a loss prevention officer saw her put $400 worth of clothing in her purse and bag while in a fitting room and exit the store without paying for the items, the report said. She was later taken to the Novi Police Department.

Purses stolen

  • A woman reported that her purse was stolen Friday from , according to a police report. The woman forgot it at the gaming stand around 2 p.m., and when she went back to get it, it was gone, the report said.
  • A woman reported that her purse was stolen Saturday from her car in the front lot near the , according to a police report. The report said the woman left her purse on the floor of the car between the front seats at 5:45 p.m. and returned at 9 p.m. to find the passenger side front window broken and her purse gone.
  • Another woman reported that her purse was stolen from a vehicle Saturday in the parking lot, according to a police report. The woman left her purse on the passenger side floor of her boyfriend’s car while they were eating from 5-6 p.m., and he forgot to lock the doors, the report said.

Police reports also said eight people arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol from Thursday through Sunday.
