Crime Report: Man Arrested on Heroin Charge, Damage Done to Subdivision Park

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A man was arrested on charges of heroin possession and driving under the influence of drugs at 11 p.m. Thursday, according to a police report. The man was traveling west on I-96 when a officer noticed he was swerving in and out of his lane and pulled him over east of the Beck Road exit, the report said.

The officer noticed that the driver’s hands were shaking, his eyes were glassy, and his speech was slow and slurred, the report said. According to the report, the officer asked the man why he was nervous, but the man said he was not.

After the man failed to pass field sobriety tests, the officer placed him under arrest on charges of operating under the influence of drugs, the report said. The officer then searched the vehicle and found five packets containing a total of 0.9 grams of heroin, the report said. The man was then charged with posession of heroin, the report said. The man said the heroin was not his and must belong to a friend who left it in the vehicle, the report said. The case is being forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
