Crime Report: Teen Makes False Report About Being Robbed at Gunpoint at Twelve Oaks, Car Egged

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A 19-year-old man from Detroit falsely reported that he was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of , according to a police report.

Police say they responded to his 911 call and asked the man what had happened. He said he was trying to purchase a vehicle from Craigslist and the seller told him he would pick him up at his house and drive him to Novi where the car was. The man then said the seller drove him to the upper level of lot near the front doors when he pulled a pistol on him and robbed him of $500, the report said.

According to the report, the police asked him to repeat the story several times, and each time something changed, such as the price he was going to pay for the car or the race of the driver. Police then told the man that they did not believe his story, that security cameras will be checked and that he should tell the truth, the report said. The man agreed to take a breathalyzer test, which showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.08, which is exactly at the legal limit.

After a short time, the man admitted he was at the mall to buy some iPhones for some people, but they left him at the mall with no ride home. He then called 911 and made up robbery story. The police then arrested him for being a minor in possession of alcohol and for making a false report.

Car Egged

A man and his daughter reported that their car was egged while parked in their driveway on Amherst Drive the night of Nov. 23, according to a police report. The daughter noticed eggshells in the driveway around 9 a.m. while she was leaving for work, the report said. She found egg yoke hanging from the Chevy symbol and a small spot where the paint was chipped, the report said. According to the report, the eggs were cleaned up before the police got there. The residents also said their neighbor made a report about the same problem earlier that day. All of them thought that the egging may have been done by children who were throwing a party in the area, the report said.

Items stolen

A woman and her cousin reported items stolen from their vehicles while parked at her residence on Wheaton Lane sometime during the night of Nov. 23, according to a police report. The woman reported that $5 in change was taken from her unlocked vehicle, and the suspect made a failed attempt to take the stereo, which damaged it, the report said. Her cousin’s rental car was mistakenly left unlocked and her GPS was stolen from the center console, the report said.

A woman from Brighton reported her $3,500 ring went missing while she was shopping at Macy’s at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, according to a police report. The woman was trying on a ring that was for sale and took off her own ring to try it on, the report said. After she took of the Macy’s ring, she noticed her own ring was missing, the report said. According to the report, the woman’s insurance company requested she file a police report.
