Novi Woods Elementary Kicks Off Red Ribbon Week With Aerial Photo

A plane from the Drug Enforcement Administration took a photo of the Novi Woods fourth graders Friday.

Red Ribbon week, the nation's largest drug prevention campaign, begins Monday at . To kick off the program, the fourth grader students at held up signs, each with a letter on them, to spell out "Novi Woods ♥ Red Ribbon Week 2011."

A plane from the Detroit Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) took the students' photo Friday afternoon to capture the message from the sky.

One of the Novi Woods parents and co-chairs for Red Ribbon Week, who wished to remain anonymous, works at the DEA and arranged the flyover as a fun way to kick off the week.

The DEA sponsors Red Ribbon Week, which is will be celebrated by Novi schools Oct. 24-28. Students are encouraged to wear the provided red ribbons to show their support.

At the elementary level, the program mostly focuses on healthy bodies and choices. All the elementary schools will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with spirit days, in which students can wear outfits to reflect the day's theme. For example, students will wear pajamas to school one day to promote getting good sleep.
