30 Days of Giving, Day 7: Shop with a Hero
Several area police and fire departments are teaming up with soldiers from the 1775th Military Police Company in Pontiac to take 100 area children Christmas shopping.
This is the seventh in a 30-day series of ways Patch community members can give back this holiday season. We hope you'll take part in this 30 Days of Giving, and take the spirit beyond the holidays, because there truly is need all year long.
Give Christmas to 100 local kids
This month, officers from several area police and fire departments – including the Lake Orion Police Department and Oakland County Sheriff's Office substations in Oxford, Orion and – are raising money for the annual at the Oxford Meijer store.
During the event, these local "heroes" team up with soldiers from the 1775th Military Police Company in Pontiac to take 100 area children Christmas shopping. In addition, the Oxford Meijer store will provide a complete Christmas dinner to each family represented.

So far, the charity has received $9,000 after a single generous donor gave $3,000 earlier this week, Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh said. However, "Shop with a Hero" is still shy of its $15,000 goal.
"We need more help, and time is short," Narsh wrote on his Facebook page Wednesday. "Can you donate something today?"
