5 Things to Know This Week

Special meetings, cooler weather, solo/ensemble and a Roaring 20s benefit.

  1. Spring is in the air: Well, sort of. Temperatures will be in the mid 50s today, and  are definitely popping up all around town, but it looks like much cooler weather will move in for the rest of the first week of spring. So dress the kids warmly for the bus stop and remember, winter can't last forever. We hope.
  2. Superintendent Finalist Interviews: The Rochester Board of Education will interview the three superintendent candidate finalists this week. Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions from 6 to 6:55 p.m.; the Board of Education will conduct official interviews starting at 7. Gary Richards will interview Tuesday, Geraldine Moore, will interview Thursday and will interview Friday at .
  3. Township meetings this week: The Oakland Township Board of Trustees is holding a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, an hour before its regularly scheduled 7 p.m. meeting. According to the agenda, the special meeting will include "a public hearing on the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant application for the funding of a multi-use trail connection between the Polly Ann Trail, Bald Mountain Recreation Area and the , including new fishing access to Paint Creek." The board will then vote on the grant application during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday; they will also consider dust control services, budget amendments and future meeting dates. Ordinances will NOT be on the agenda at this time. The Parks and Recreation Commission is also meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the . Please see attached agendas for more information.
  4. Students head to State Solo & Ensemble: Musicians from , , , Romeo and Lake Orion high schools are competing in this year's state festival at . The festival runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
  5. Wizard of Oz and the Roaring 20s: presents this Thursday through Sunday. Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday; tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors over 60. is also hosting its annual on Saturday from 6-9:30 p.m. Seats are limited and cost $35 each; call 248-652-3420 or email MSteen@oakarbor.org for more information.
