5 Things to Know This Week

Commencements, public hearings, gardening at the library and free fishing will keep Oakland Township residents busy this week.

Congratulations, Class of 2011! Seniors from Rochester, Adams, Stoney Creek and Lake Orion high schools are all graduating this week. Here are this week's commencement ceremonies:

  • : Wednesday, 8 p.m., Meadowbrook
  • : Thursday, 8 p.m., Meadowbrook
  • Lake Orion High School: Friday, 7 p.m., Meadowbrook

Warm (and possibly wet) weather ahead: It'll continue to feel like summer this week with high temperatures in the 80s and lows in the 60s. You may also get a break from watering your lawn and plants – the forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms every day until Saturday.

Public Hearing on Tuesday: The Oakland Township Planning Commission is meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. in ; there will be a public hearing regarding the request for Country Creek Commons Shopping Center, located at Adams and Silverbell roads. The proposed changes include:

The Parks and Recreation Commission is meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the .

Free fishing this weekend: The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is waiving all fishing license fees June 11 and 12 as part of its first-ever . The Bald Mountain Recreation Area is also offering a free beginner fishing class Thursday at 10 a.m. as part of Free Fishing Weekend. DNR fishing regulations still apply.
