On Sunday, around 100 Glitz Salons stylists cut, shaved and coiffed their way to raising $20,000 for the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
The day-long fundraiser also included special appearances by famous make-believe princesses, appearances from superheroes, a 5k run, silent auction, horse-drawn carriage rides and more.
“We look forward to this event all year, devising new and creative ways to engage more people and raise more funds for CLF,” said Cherie Clinton-Barnett, president and owner of Glitz Salons in Clarkston, Lake Orion, Orion Township and Rochester. “Our staff and clients are very invested in the event’s success, helping spread the word and build excitement.”

Glitz Salons has organized and hosted the cut-a-thon event for 10 years, raising roughly $250,000 for the Children's Leukemia Foundation, which helps families cope with leukemia, lymphoma and related disorders by providing information, financial assistance and emotional support.
Clinton-Barnett was inspired to organize her first cut-a-thon after a teenage client was diagnosed with leukemia; the next cut-a-thon is scheduled for fall of 2012 and will be held again at Canterbury Village.
