OU Offers 10-Week Exercise and Health Promotion Program for Breast Cancer Survivors

's School of Health Sciences is offering a 10-week exercise & health promotion program for women who have had breast cancer within the past few years. Orientation for the program is on Sept. 22 from 6-8 p.m.

To be eligible, participants must be sedentary (not exercising regularly) for the past three months and be a breast cancer survivor between the ages of 18 and 70 who is not more than eight years post treatment.

There will be several speakers during the program, including Dr. Ruth Lerman, who runs the program at Beaumont Hospital – an 8-week workshop that has been very successful in improving the quality of life of female cancer survivors.

During 10-week program, participants receive two sessions of surveys and assessments, twice-weekly exercise sessions, three educational sessions on nutrition, mindfulness and oncology rehabilitation. Participants will also have access to the school's recreation center for individual workout sessions.

The program costs $45; the research program will help determine the effects of exercise and health promotion activities for individuals with cancer experiences.
