Antique Appraisal Day Sheds Light on Some Treasures
Locals bring their heirlooms and oddities to the Rochester Community House on Sunday to learn the history and value during event that benefits area historical societies.

A steady stream of people toting family heirlooms and other valuables visited the 18th Antique Appraisal Day at the Rochester Community House on Sunday, hoping to learn more about their treasures.
Several area professional appraisers, including Paul Haig of , volunteered their time from noon-4 p.m. to appraise items at the bargain price of just $5 each.
The Rochester-Avon and Oakland Township historical societies together host the antique appraisal day twice a year, providing an inexpensive way for residents to have their valuables and family heirlooms appraised by professionals while also raising money for the historical societies.

The event usually raises between $1,000-$2,000, said Colleen Barkham, a volunteer for and secretary of the Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Commission.
