Get Hooked on Fishing During Michigan's First Free Fishing Weekend

No permits required to fish in Michigan this weekend.

If you want to go out fishing but don't have a license yet, don't worry – the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is waiving all fishing license fees June 11 and 12 as part of its first-ever Free Fishing Weekend.

Residents and out-of-state visitors alike can enjoy fishing in both inland and Great Lakes waters this weekend. Though fishing licenses will not be required this weekend, all DNR fishing regulations will remain in effect.

The Free Fishing Weekend also includes fishing classes held at some state parks, including Bald Mountain Recreation Area in Oakland Township.

"Fishing 101" will teach potential anglers how to cast, how to choose bait and how to get the best results when shore fishing. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon on June 9 on a fishing dock at the East Graham boat launch, which is located on Predmore Road between Harmon and Lake George roads. Bait and poles are provided; the workshop is led by ranger staff from the park.

To reserve a spot in this weekend's Fishing 101 class, call Bald Mountain Recreation Area at 248-693-6767.
