Homeless Man, Woman Suspected in Purse Theft

Sheriff's deputies still searching for man believed to be responsible in theft.

The following information was provided by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. Arrests, where indicated, do not indicate a conviction.

Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies responded April 9 to Kmart on M-24 near Clarkston Road for a report of a man and woman who had just stolen a purse from a car, according to the sheriff's office.

When deputies arrived, they learned the man and woman were homeless people residing in a wooded area near the Kmart, the sheriff's office indicated. A witness at the scene showed deputies the area where he saw the man and woman run and the purse was recovered in the area, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies sent a police dog to search the area and a woman was taken into custody for questioning, the sheriff's office reported, while the man hadn't yet been found.

Deputies were unable to locate the man, but the investigation is ongoing.
