A 51-year-old Hazel Park man was arrested Thursday after a pursuit by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies that began at Tienken Road near Rochester Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy on patrol in the area was waved down by a construction worker in the area at about 10:15 a.m., the department said, and the deputy saw a vehicle driving through the construction zone at a high rate of speed.

The construction worker told the deputy the vehicle nearly struck a worker, according to the department. The vehicle then exited the construction area, driving through a parking lot and exiting onto northbound Rochester Road before driving into oncoming traffic on Orion Road and into Lake Orion, failing to stop for the sheriff's vehicle's sirens and lights, the department indicated.

The deputy then saw the vehicle on a side street and arrested the driver. Witnesses at the construction site told a second deputy the driver had entered a tool trailer used by the construction workers and took a concrete saw, helmet and gloves, according to the department. Deputies recovered these items in the man's vehicle.

The man was taken to the Rochester Hills substation for questioning and lodged at Oakland County Jail pending arraignment.
