Moms Talk: Should the Government Ban Artificial Food Dyes?

We invite parents to weigh in on today's topic.

From Cheetos to Popsicles and even some brands of pickles, artificial dye is in many of the foods we and our children eat every day. And while taste tests show that color alone plays a crucial part in the eating experience by making foods appear more appetizing, some groups and individuals say the dyes are harmful to children.

Last week, the Center for Science in the Public Interest asked the government to ban artificial food coloring because the group feels the dyes may encourage hyperactivity in some children.

On Thursday, a government advisory panel for the Food and Drug Administration voted 8-6 against requiring additional labeling for artificial food dyes beyond what already exists, reported The New York Times.
