Moms Talk: To Bieber, or Not to Bieber?

We want your input! Tell us what music you think is appropriate for children – and what's not.

Our question for this week's Moms Talk is:

How do you determine what music is appropriate for your child?

I ask because my 5-year-old son is obsessed with Justin Bieber (seriously, just watch the video), and I'm wondering now if I should have tried to control what he listens to a little more.

I don't know where he learned about Bieber (maybe a Kidz Bop commercial?), but a couple months ago he started begging me for "the baby song," as he calls it. He actually squealed in delight when I handed back his iPod after adding the My World album to its music library.

It's all he wants to listen to any more, but it's not the first time my son has become obsessed with a particular artists. For a while it was Jack Johnson, and then Green Day, and he spent about six months last year obsessing over the Beatles.

Now, I suppose I really don't have a problem with Bieber (though I wish his voice would change already), but I think that some parents control what their children listen to much more than I do.
