Oakland County Kroger Temporarily Closes Due To Mice Infestation
State inspectors said they found mouse droppings in multiple parts of the store, including the pet food and bread aisles.
ORION TOWNSHIP, MI — An Oakland County Kroger store was closed Wednesday after mouse droppings were found on store shelves.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development received the complaint on Dec. 8 and investigated the Orion Township store, located along South Baldwin Road, the next day.
Inspectors found mouse droppings in multiple parts of the store, including the pet food aisle, bread aisle and other sections of the store, according to the report.

The store manager told officials they were working with their pest control company, Eco Lab, to eradicate the infestation. The manager also said employees pulled all food products from the lowest shelves and placed traps in the affected areas, while Eco Lab worked to seal off any entry points for the pests.
Despite the effort, the store failed to meet the state department's deadline of Dec. 30 to address the rodent problem.

Shoppers were met with a sign posted to the door that read: "Sorry for the inconvenience. Our store is temporarily closed until further notice."
A store representative told the Oakland County Times they are still working with the pest company to fix the problem. Additionally, they said they have implemented strict sanitation protocols, initiated a thorough deep cleaning and will maintain ongoing inspections.
The store hopes to reopen as soon as possible, though there is no specific date.
