Oakland Township Firefighters Visit Musson Elementary Pre-K Class

The students explored the fire engine and learned about fire safety.

In Lisa Huston's pre-Kindergarten class, "circle time" took on a whole new meaning Friday as her three- and four-year-old students practiced "stop, drop & roll," learned rhymes and tried on Oakland Township firefighter Corey Sroka's gear in the corner of the classroom.

Then, of course, the whole class got the opportunity to climb aboard a real fire engine.

"The children are very excited," said Huston, who teaches two separate pre-Kindergarten classes at . "They get to go on the fire truck, hear the siren and see the lights."

Two firefighters from the visited the classroom on Friday, including fire safety education coordinator Corey Sroka.

"We visit all the schools in Oakland Township," Sroka said, adding that they will likely return to Musson again in the spring to give more fire safety presentations.

"My favorite thing is going out and seeing the kids," Sroka said. "Hopefully, they'll remember one little thing I've taught them and they'll be safe in a fire."
