Oakland Township Mom Cited for Speeding, Suspended License, Lack of Child Safety Seats

Traffic stop in Goodison results in multiple citations.

An Oakland Township mom pulled over on Tuesday evening for a traffic stop faces multiple citations for speeding, driving with a suspended license and not restraining two of her three young children in approved child seats.

The woman, who lives near Territorial Street and Orion Road, was pulled over for speeding in front of in Goodison. According to police reports, the woman's license is suspended due to nonpayment of a traffic citation in Clarkston.

“As I observed the occupants of the vehicle, I noticed three young children in the back seat of the vehicle and only one was in a certified child restraint seat," the deputy's report stated. "All three children appeared to be under the age of 3 years."

The report states that the two unrestrained children were buckled into adult seatbelts. When the deputy asked the woman why her children were not in car seats, she said she "thought it was OK" because she was "only going to Kroger." The nearest is 2.8 miles from her home.

Because the woman was within a block of her home, she was allowed to drive her children home. She received citations for driving with a suspended license, speeding and failing to have mandatory restraints for children under 4 years old. She was required to surrender her license at the scene.
