Orion Township Public Library Hosts Money Smart Week

Programs at library to address importance of financial literacy.

The Orion Township Public Library wants to help residents manage their personal finances.

The library will be offering programs stressing the importance of financial literacy and informing consumers about where they can get help, according to library officials. Programming is offered to all demographics and income levels and covers all facets of personal finance.

The effort was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002. Money Smart Week partners will be hosting their events April 20-27.

  • Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m.: Be a Money S.M.A.R.T.Y. Recognized experts will present on the four top money-related topics you need to know about. Byattending you’ll get the latest up-to-date information on: Credit and debt; identity theft and fraud; Annuities and long-term care; pre- and post-retirement planning. The seminar is free to attend and free from sales pitches. Made possible by the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation, and the Investor Protection Trust, Washington, D.C.
  • Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m.: How Money Works for Kids. Parents Only! Our children are constantly bombarded by commercials trying to convince them that they NEED products and services and messages about money that may be in conflict with your family values. Attend this seminar to get valuable tips and lessons that will help your children be better equipped to deal with money later in life—when you’re not around.
  • Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.: Choosing Your Investment Philosophy. Join financial coach Jim Koester to discover your personal true purpose for money and why it matterswhen considering financial decisions. Attendees will receive the DVD, How the Really Smart Money Invests.
