Airbags Triggered When Driver Hits Pothole on Lake George Road

Another pothole incident, however, resulted in eye injuries to driver when she swerved to miss pothole, hit a utility pole and the side window shattered, report says.

Oakland Township resident Kelly Shea, 42, hit a pothole, deploying the side impact airbag of her 2007 Chevrolet K15, according to a traffic crash report.

The incident occurred early Tuesday afternoon on Lake George Road near Stoney Creek Road in Oakland Township.

“I mean, I know the potholes are there because they’re always there," said Shea. "I wasn’t going a high rate of speed but I couldn’t get over because of another car.”

An 18-year-old Oakland Township resident was involved in a separate pothole-related accident Saturday afternoon after she hit a hole, swerved to miss another one and struck a utility pole with the driver's side mirror, according to a traffic crash report. The incident occurred near Predmore Road and Countryside Lane.

The driver's side window was shattered by the side mirror, causing glass to hit the woman's eyes, the report read. She was taken to Beaumont Hospital, Troy for treatment.
