• Some people make wishes at 11:11 on any day, so the fact that they can wish at 11:11 on 11/11/11 makes it an extra powerful wishing day. Or, at least that's what these people believe.
• The Make-A-Wish Foundation recognizes that some people make a wish at 11:11, so a few chapters are hosting a 11/11/11-themed events, including the 11-11 Wishes Come True Soiree in Connecticut.
• It’s Veteran’s Day, and, in all seriousness, an important time to thank those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
• There is just an itsy bitsy little chance today could be the end of the world. At least, that is part of the premise of the movie coming out, 11-11-11. • Twin girls from Wisconsin will celebrate their 11^th birthday, and it will make national news, according to The Washington Post.
• One hundred years ago today, The Great Blue Norther of 11/11/1911 – an incredible cold snap affecting the central U.S. – sent temperatures plunging by 60 degrees or more in a single day. In Kansas City, MO, temperatures dropped from 76 degrees in the late morning to just 11 degrees that night. According to Wikipedia, it was "the only day in many midwest cities' weather bureau jurisdictions where the record highs and lows were broken for the same day." In Oakland Township, the National Weather Service is predicting a high today near 43 and a low around 35; Weather Underground is also predicting a 20 percent chance of snow showers.
