Workshops Aim to Educate on Fighting Invasive Plants
Two upcoming seminars tackle invasive phragmites.

The North Oakland Wild Ones Chapter is co-sponsoring two phragmites workshops in May, including one in Oakland Township.
The primary event will be held at 9 a.m. at the Independence Township Hall.
This workshop is presented by Ernie Kafcas, phragmites consultant and retired MDNR wildlife biologist.

- Learn how invasive plants lower property values
- How to identify Phragmites and other invasive plants
- Local efforts to control Phragmites
- Do-It-Yourself removal options
- Meet and greet local organizations fighting invasive species
- Sign up with contractors experienced at controlling invasive species
A similar event will take place 7-9 p.m. on May 9 at Pain Creek Cider Mill, 4480 Orion Road in Oakland Township. Bob Williams will be speaking. It is open to residents of Oakland Township.
