Big Beaver Road/I-75 Fifth Most-Dangerous Intersection
Big Beaver Road/I-75 is one of six Oakland County intersections ranked in Michigan's top 20 most dangerous, says a local law firm.
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — The city of Troy has made the top 10 of a list it probably would rather not be on. The intersection of Big Beaver Road and I-75 is the fifth most dangerous in the state of Michigan, and saw a 46 percent increase in total crashes in 2016 compared to 2015.
But Troy isn’t the lone Oakland County community to make the list, which is compiled each year by Farmington Hills-based Michigan Auto Law. The intersection of Orchard Lake Road and 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, in fact, led the state in the number of crashes last year.
Other Oakland County intersections making the list include:

Michigan Auto Law attorney Steven Gursten, who is president of the Motor Vehicle Trial Lawyers Association, said intersections include any accident that occurred within 250 feet of any intersection, including turnarounds and on/off ramps to highways. He said an “Intersection” is defined as any road with a traffic signal, four-way stop or roundabout.
Rankings are based data from 2016 compiled by the Michigan State Police’s traffic crash reporting unit, Gursten said. The unit collects motor vehicle accident reports from local law enforcement to identify what intersections had the highest number of reported car crashes, he added.
