Canton Goes to the Dogs and More This Weekend

1. Joy Fitness Studio Grand Opening

  • When: Friday  
  • Where: Joy Fitness Studio, 43367 Joy Rd, Canton
  • What: Try a free class at Joy Fitness Studio to celebrate its grand opening. 9 a.m. is Zumba Gold and 10:15 a.m. is Pilaxing.

2. "Despicable Me 2" at the Penn Theatre

  • When: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 4:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Where: The Penn Theatre, 760 Penniman Avenue, Plymouth
  • What: Gru is recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal.

3. Bark for Life of Canton

    • When: Saturday, 10 a.m.
    • Where: Heritage Park, 1010 South Canton Center Rd.
    • What: The American Cancer Society's Bark For Life of Canton Michigan is a Relay For Life fundraising event that honors the caregiving qualities of canine companions. Bark For Life also gives us an opportunity to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost their fight with the disease. Bring your best canine friend and join us for a fun-filled day starting with a walk, and then continuing with contests, food, music and games.     4. Brew, Brats and Bands at the Barn

    • When: Saturday, 6 p.m.
    • Where: Preservation Park Cady Boyer Barn, 500 N. Ridge Rd.
    • What: Check out the 4th annual Brew, Brats and Bands at Preservation Park with live entertainment and more than 50 craft and specialty beers to try.

    5. Open Chess at the Canton Library

    • When: Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
    • Where: Canton Public Library Community Room
    • What: Join the CPL for informal open play as well as a tournament by the Library Chess Clubs on the fourth Sunday of each month in the library community room. For tournament information and registration, please email clubchess@wowway.com. Open and tournament chess are open to ages 10 and up.
