Canton Mother, Ex-Boyfriend Get Probation for Death of Infant

A former Canton resident and her ex-boyfriend were sentenced to three years probation Thursday in connection with the death of her 19-month-old son in June of 2012, according to an article in the Observer & Eccentric.

According to the article, Andrea Nicole Rodgers, 20, and Ryan Keith Moody, 25, have avoided a prison sentence by pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter. As part of the plea, authorities dropped the charge of second-degree child abuse.

Rodgers' son died after ingesting prescription drugs.

“I think the judge recognized these are not bad people,” Defense Attorney Jeffrey Osment said in the article. “It’s not like it was malicious intent. I think it’s a fair sentence.”
