Canton Police: Vehicle Break In At Workman Elementary A 'Crime Of Opportunity'
Police say vehicle break-ins at schools is not a widespread problem but that a few daycare facilities in the area have had incidents.

CANTON, MI — A car break-in at Workman Elementary School on Monday has Plymouth-Canton Community Schools officials advising parents to exercise caution when dropping their children off.
The break-in was reported by a parent after she parked her vehicle in the school lot adjacent to Denton Road. School officials said she walked her child to the line-up door and then returned to her vehicle and found unspecified items missings. Canton Police Sgt Dan Traylor said the incident occurred at about 9 a.m.
“It’s a crime of opportunity,” Traylor said of car break-ins. “We advise that people keep any valuables out of plain sight. Keep your purse or and bags with you, or store them in your trunk until you get back to your vehicle.”

Traylor emphasized that the Plymouth-Canton schools are not seeing a rash of these kinds of break-ins. “But there have been a few at area daycares in the past year,” he commented.
