Discovery Students Perform At Orchestra Hall

A group of 11 Discovery Middle School students were recently honored by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and got to perform at Orchestra Hall.

CANTON, MI — It’s not often that middle school band members get to perform at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. But that’s exactly what a group of Discovery Middle School students recently did after being honored by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. A total of 11 seventh and eighth graders performed, according to the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools District.

Led by Discovery Middle School Band Director Marc Whitlock, students were selected by the DSO as some of the finest musicians in southeast Michigan. Students received music only a few days in advance for the performance. But each member rehearsed for eight grueling hours and then came together to put on a brilliant concert on March 13.
