Man Faces New Charges After Stalking Plymouth City Commissioner, MI AG

A Jackson man is in trouble after officials said he stalked the Michigan attorney general and her wife, a Plymouth City Commissioner.

PLYMOUTH, MI — A Jackson man is facing new charges in connection with stalking Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and her wife - Plymouth City Commissioner Alanna Maguire, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Christopher Dean Baldwin, 42, was originally charged with two counts of misdemeanor stalking in connection with the incident on March 7, 2024.

Officials said Baldwin rang the doorbell and sat on the front porch at Nessel’s family home in Plymouth at 8:30 a.m. on March 5, 2024.

When officers arrived at the home, they arrested Baldwin, officials said.

The day before, Baldwin attended a Plymouth commission meeting in Plymouth Township where Maguire was in attendance, officials said.

A judge dismissed the case last week because Baldwin was found incompetent to stand trial, officials said.

"Because this is a 12-month offense, MCL 330.2044, requires that if Baldwin remains incompetent for 4 months (1/3 of the maximum), the case must be dismissed until, and if, he regains competency," according to the prosecutor’s office.

Baldwin is under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court Probate Division and is housed in a secure facility, according to the prosecutor’s office.

If he regains competence, that criminal case will be reinstated, according to the prosecutor’s office.

However, Baldwin is now facing additional stalking charges after he used Nessel and Maguire’s address and Nessel’s phone number without permission to get documents from the 12th District Court in Jackson County, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Baldwin was charged with two counts of aggravated stalking in connection to that incident, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He was placed in jail last Thursday and given a $200,000 bond. If he posts bond, he must wear a GPS tether. His next court date is April 4.

"We are alleging once again that the defendant in this case continues to harass our State Attorney General and her wife," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. "This is criminal behavior and cannot be tolerated."
